The MINI 3-door Hatch is a true trailblazer. Committed to standing out from the crowd, it’s expressive and self-assured – the choice for unconventional types. The MINI Hatch is made to enjoy urban life to the full. Compact on the outside, with short overhangs, it has a small turning circle which is handy for nimble manoeuvring in the concrete jungle, and offers room for four people.
2001 - 2006
The first MINI after BMW took the helm, the R50 emphasised continuity with MINI’s classic design of rounded lights, wheel-arch overhangs and a chrome grille. Inside, the iconic central dial returns.
Updated in 2006, the exterior of the R56 was largely unchanged from the R50, retaining the modern twist-on-a-classic style, alongside minor updates, such as the headlamps now incorporating turn signals. The interior remained mostly the same.
2014 - 2018
The all-new all MINI! The size was increased slightly, as well as the interior being redesigned and fitted with a new navigation system and a digitised central dial.
The exterior sports new lights and the grill has been designed to feature a lower air-vent behind the license plate.
The biggest change however was in the engine, which incorporated MINI TwinPower Turbo technology into the Cooper, Cooper S and Cooper D models, improving performance and driving experience.
2018 - Present
In 2018, the electronics and exterior colours were updated, whilst retaining the familiar MINI look. The famous central circular dashboard was modernised in this iteration with touchscreen enabled.
The headlights changed to have the LED-ring and central bulb, and the rear headlights are complete with Union Jacks. The grille was redesigned with a lower vent to maximise performance and the engine was also remodelled to reduce the weight of the car.
In 2021 a black hexagonal surround was introduced to the grille, the wheel arches now have contours and the roof has a stylish multitone option. On the inside, we see a sleek finish as the chrome trim is replaced by black surrounds. The modernisation comes to a head with the central dial taking centre stage as the hub for driver convenience.
